Your friends would usually describe you as very enthusiastic, full of life and energy. You have a lot of innovative ideas you want to implement, or challenges you want to take on. But how can you keep all this motivation constantly on?
We all have this tendency to share our thoughts of success with the people around us because we like to believe it’s important to know about others’ point of views. Then we usually find yourself in this typical situation where we get negative feedback about our project, and we just end up putting it on hold.
Was our initial idea that bad just because it hasn’t been validated by others ? Here’s why this constitutes the wrong mindset to have.
#1: A story of climbing frogs
Once upon a time, there was a king who ruled a great and glorious nation of frogs. The wise king devised an extraordinary contest to see who would be worthy of receiving the Princess’ hand in marriage. Whoever reaches the top of the mountain first would be the winner.
The best climbers came from all over the realm to take on the challenge, and a big crowd gathered to watch the event. Everyone believed the competitors were suicidal because this high mountain has never been conquered before. Many climbers got exhausted indeed and gave up, but a few frogs continued the fight.
As they climbed higher and higher, the crowd below felt very concerned for the safety of the brave participants. So, they started to jump and shout in order to convince them to stop their madness. When the climbing frogs heard the warnings, they looked down and panicked. They all decided to put an end to their adventure except one frog who continued climbing further and further, until he reached the summit.
All the frogs suddenly felt inspired by the strong determination of the new champion. When they asked him how he managed to overcome the crowd’s negative beliefs, they realized he was deaf!
#2: Follow your guts cause nobody knows much
You should always believe in yourself and keep working on you own goals. Sometimes, the people that care for us the most are just not capable of seeing things the way we see them. They will discourage you because they think it’s the only way to protect you. So have a deaf ear to negativity-filled, bling criticism, and disbelief. The one who constantly asks for encouragements is just not determined enough. Once you know your goals and have a strong plan for them, just make them happen, and all the doubters will cheer for you once you succeed.
At the end of the day, nobody really knows much. What we know is drop, what we don’t is an ocean. I like to listen to what people have to say about my projects. Then I analyze each advice with detachment. Does it contain any valuable information I haven’t thought about? But I never let criticism or others’ doubts impact negatively on my energy. You just have to verify and think about additional pieces of information you received, but the decision to act on it is yours and yours only.
